2016 Porsche Panamera Redesign, Spy Shots and Review

The spy shots of the 2016 Porsche Panamera show that the automaker is currently busy developing a new replacement for the model car. Many are expecting that the new car will arrive sometime in 2016. Many of you should have known that the previous model design doesn’t really satisfy almost everyone, Porsche admits it and promises to bring a lot better design in the upcoming release.

2016 Porsche Panamera

While recently speaking at the Paris Motor Show 2014 with Car Advice, Porsche chief executive Matthias Muller said, “It should be as successful as the first generation Panamera. There has been some mistakes, but we will do it better. For example, the design could be better, as well as the interior.”

Project chief designer Michael Mauer echoed these statements by indicating that the new Panamera will indeed look better than the outgoing car.

Exterior

Looking instantly recognizable, the car has been carefully honed to be more attractive than its predecessor. The front end is pretty evolutionary but bigger changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the model adopts more curvaceous body work and a gently sloping shoulder line. The rear end also appears slightly longer and better integrated into the overall design.

Little is known about the model but it is expected to ride on the MSB platform which uses a combination of high-strength steel and aluminum. This change could enable the car to weigh 91 kg (200 lbs) less than its predecessor.

Work continues on the all-new Porsche Panamera set to adopt an evolutionary design but with a significantly sleeker rear end enhanced by the longer and more sloped roofline. The final design should show some styling cues sourced from the rather appealing Panamera Sport Turismo concept introduced in 2012 but the Panamera’s silhouette will still remain instantly recognizable.

The next Panamera will share its front-engine, rear-wheel drive MSB platform with the next generation of the Bentley Continental. Largely built out of aluminum, the new architecture will allow the sedan to shed a considerable amount of weight, making it faster and more efficient than its predecessor.

Powertrain

Insiders expect a choice of two plug-ins, one using a petrol-fed V6 (with a 434bhp combined output), the other with a V6 diesel (366bhp total). Both the new V6 and V8 engines are by Porsche’s own making. The rumor mill suggests a 2.9-litre V6 which delivers 420bhp, a 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 rated at 500bhp with all the stops pulled out, and a rorty 4.0-litre V8 good for up to 600bhp.
