It has been confirmed that the 2016 Nissan Titan would be introduced at the next 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The company has been intensively giving signal that the full-size pickup truck is getting ready for launch. Recent reports show that a pickup prototype was spotted undergoing road testing wearing camouflage, it was the Titan of course. Nissan also releases a “Truckumentary” intended to tell the story of truck’s development.

2016 Nissan Titan

The initial Truckumentary teaser video was released on Wednesday, showcasing Nissan product planners and designers via a storytelling technique. They reminisce about growing up on ranches and farms with trucks as everyday vehicles.

“The unifying link between us is that we pretty much all grew up as truck people,” said Rich Miller, director of product planning for trucks and SUVs for Nissan North America. “Many of us were raised in families where trucks were a given — we’ve never known life without a truck in the driveway.”

He added, “Our truck team gets that these are multipurpose vehicles, and they’ve built in this capacity for commuting, recreation and labor, all working in conjunction with one another, into the next-generation Titan.”

Exterior

Although still covered in camouflage, this prototype truck reveals that the next Titian will sport a new grille with a frame design similar to that of the latest Murano crossover. The Titan’s headlamps will be more complicated than before, with LED accents peeking out from the inside corners. Sensor are visible in the lower section of the Titan’s bumper, indicating the next-generation full-size truck will come with a full suite of safety technology.

Seen here in crew cab form, it looks as though the Titan’s cabin will be a little more roomy for the 2016 model year. The rear doors of the truck apparel to be much larger than the unit’s found on today’s truck. The rear lights of the Titan look like they have been given Nissan’s signature fish hook design, but we’ll have to wait until the truck’s official unveiling to know for sure.

Powertrain

In terms of powertrains, the 2016 Nissan Titan will likely offer a gas V-8 in addition to the 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel V-8 that’s already confirmed for this pickup. We don’t know how many different configurations Nissan will offer, but the Titan in the video is a crew cab model with what looks like a long-bed option. Nissan will surely be targeting domestic trucks like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 in terms of towing and hauling numbers, so expect the 2016 Nissan Titan to be competitive, especially when equipped with the powerful diesel which is expected to pump out more than 300 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque.
