2016 Mazda CX-5 Full Specifications and Review

Mazda really knows how to please its fans, the 2016 Mazda CX-5 will try to fulfill what its fans want. The previous model was criticized for having dated infotainment system and dull interior. The crossover will get more power from new engine option, exterior will also get some facelift.

The first thing you’ll notice about the 2016 Mazda CX-5 is the redesigned “eye-like” headlights. Those lamps receive three-dimensional elements within the housings and also feature LED accents when the Technology package is selected. Those accents recall the lighting elements first seen on the global Mazda2, likely hinting that we’ll see the same design cue on other future Mazdas. The second big change was made to the grille area. Horizontal slats replace the mesh pattern used on the current model, and the front fascia is revised, as is the rear with redesigned taillights. LED units are available with the Tech package. A new set of 19-inch alloy wheels is available, and two new exterior colors, Titanium Flash Mica and Sonic Silver Metallic, are added.

For the most part, the CX-5 is pleasingly versatile, and its front seats are probably the best-bolstered you’ll find in this kind of vehicle; there’s good seating space in back, too. Mazda’s added cushion length to the back seats for better comfort. But this is one of the more compact models in the class, and its cargo floor is a bit higher than rival models it seems (perhaps due to the presence of a spare tire). The load floor is long and flat, and for the most part (save for some engine noise occasionally), the CX-5 has a quiet, refined interior, amplified this year by some noise-reduction work, some nicer trim and materials, including a new Parchment leather option, and additional storage bins.

The CX-5’s excellent safety ratings should carry over for the new year. Safety add-ons for 2016 include available adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitors, and forward-collision warning with automatic braking, as well as the Mazda Connect smartphone connectivity system, which bridges the safety and technology realm by steering control of personal devices over to the car’s knob controller.

No changes are in store for the CX-5’s SkyActive-Drive 2.0-liter or 2.5-liter engines or the 6-speed manual transmission that will be available on the front-drive Sport variant. The 6-speed automatic found in all other Sport/Touring/Grand Touring iterations is upgraded with new Drive Selection function that adds responsiveness and is expected to bump up the new CX-5’s not-yet-released EPA numbers. The available all-wheel drive system also has been revised for more efficient operation. Already highly regarded for its handling prowess, the 2016 CX-5 also gets subtle chassis tweaks that improve ride comfort and control.
