2016 Jaguar XJ Coupe Planned As XK’s Successor

Jaguar is currently preparing the 2016 Jaguar XJ Coupe as the successor of a decade old Jaguar XK. Reports said that Jaguar will end XK’s production soon. The next-generation XJ is positioned as a direct rival against Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Bentley Continental GT.

Given how the F-Type has been an enormous success and is largely the reason why Jaguar decided to drop the XK, it’s a smart move for Jaguar to make the proposed XJ Coupe look similar to its current meal ticket. That appears to be the plan for Jaguar, as it continues to make aggressive move after aggressive move to be a player in the luxury performance market.

The reported arrival of the XJ Coupe also means that Jaguar won’t necessarily drop out of the 2+2 grand tourer market where models like the Bentley Continental GT and the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe reside. On the contrary, Jaguar is preparing the XJ Coupe to be a direct rival to these models. With that, you can at least expect the model to be bigger than the XK with a similar aluminum architecture as the F-Type.

There’s likely to be a choice of supercharged V6 and V8 petrol engines, plus, for the first time, a six-cylinder diesel, while the platform is believed to be a stretched version of the F-Type’s aluminium architecture. Don’t expect to see the new GT for several years, though, as Jag enters one of the busiest periods in its history.

Release Date and Price

Seeing how busy Jaguar will be in next year, we expect that the 2016 Jaguar XJ Coupe won’t be there soon. Some say that the XJ will be available in 2017 or 2018, but still no official announcement from Jaguar, all we can do is waiting until the time really comes. As for pricing, we expect that the price will start from around £100,000. So stay tuned, guys!
