So what’s to become of the Sonata hybrid until it is relaunched in the new body style? At the drive event for the redesigned 2015 Sonata, Hyundai told us that the current hybrid will be christened as a 2015 model and sold alongside the new sedan until the new hybrid arrives. Even though Hyundai improved the Sonata hybrid slightly for 2013—mostly to improve the EPA fuel-economy figures after it was caught fluffing those numbers—we’re looking forward to seeing what the automaker is planning for the new version, especially given the efficiency improvements to the gas-fed 2015 Sonata.

2016 Hyundai Sonata will be offered with standout style and it is supported with plenty features to enjoy. As a mid-size sedan, it is rumored to be available with wider and longer design than the current model. It gets new front end and there is hexagonal grille presented to complete the revised bumper and new headlight. Tail lamps are new and the trunk lid is redrawn. There are also additional paint colors while the alloy wheel designs are updated.

Designers of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will give it a new roofline. This means that its rear headroom will be reduces. Nevertheless, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will have ample seating and leg room space. To date, not much is known about the new and redesigned interior features, but they are expected to be of superior quality. Since this car is being redesigned to try and maintain its ratings in the auto world, it is therefore going to be given the much needed attention in terms of its interior features.

The base 2015 Sonata is powered by a 2.4-liter four bolted to a six-speed automatic and gets up to 25 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, while the 2.0-liter turbo-powered Sport 2.0T‘s window sticker displays 23/32 mpg. However, the 2016 hybrid’s real internal competition will come from the new-for-2015 Eco model, which uses a small turbocharged 1.6-liter four and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic to eke out 28/38 mpg—not exactly a threat to the outgoing Sonata hybrid’s 36/40 mpg performance, but not bad, either.
