2016 Dodge Dart SRT Specs, Engine and Review

Reports are saying that the 2016 Dodge Dart SRT is currently under extensive development. The long-promised car will feature some new technologies including new design styling, improve interior, new engines and of course the new nine-speed automatic transmission. The company claims that all new technologies used in the upcoming Dart will significantly improve fuel economy. Well, that’s interesting.

Rumors about an SRT -prepped Dodge Dart have been floating around ever since the compact sedan was unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show . But hopes of a successor for the Neon SRT-4 – phased out in 2005 – were somewhat crushed when SRT CEO Ralph Gilles said at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show that the brand has yet to find the right powertrain for the car.

The Chrysler 5 year plan revealed that a new Dodge Dart SRT will arrive late in 2016 with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and all wheel drive, which very well could allow the high performance Dart to dominate the American sport compact segment – but what does it need to become a legend like the Dodge Neon SRT?

The Chrysler Group has announced that there will be a Dodge Dart SRT in late 2016 and that it will feature a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a new all wheel drive system but they didn’t go into any further detail as to how well this car will perform. Fortunately, by looking at the previous compact SRT product – the Dodge Caliber SRT4 – and by looking at the top dogs in the American sport compact segment we can make a few estimates as to what we can expect from the 2017 Dodge Dart SRT.

The big news is that the brawny version of the sedan will be motivated by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, just like the Caliber SRT4 and the Neon SRT4, and sold with an all-wheel-drive configuration. Specific details aren’t available at the time of this writing, but expect for the Dart SRT to get a beefed-up 2.4-liter Tigershark engine tuned to deliver at least 260 horsepower. The engine will be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Few other techonlogies are going to be applied to improve fuel economy.

The Dart’s upcoming facelift will see a trim level reshuffling that will result in fewer standard features and fewer available configurations, resulting in a lower starting price and a streamlined lineup. Bolder exterior styling is also expected, as is a new SRT performance model that should arrive in late 2016.

Naturally, the sportier version of the Dart will also arrive with a host of visual upgrades (check out our rendering here ), including a pair aggressive bumpers, a larger apron intake, a rear diffuser, and probably a hood scoop. Under-the-skin improvements are likely to include a stiffer, performance-tuned suspension and additional driving modes.

Release Date and Price

We have mentioned above, the 2016 Dodge Dart SRT will likely be introduced in late 2016. Pricing is estimated to start at $25,000. That’s all what we’ve got for now, more information should be available as the development progresses.
