2016 Audi A3 TDI Sportback USA Release Date and Review

The 2016 Audi A3 TDI Sportback is confirmed heading to U.S. market. The new sportback is the result of the high demand and request of the A3 sportback. As we all know, the 2015 A3 was only offered in sedan form, while the Europe version keeps its sportback form. This brings some kind of riots among A3 fans who wants the German automaker to deliver the sportback back in the U.S. market.

“The A3 TDI Sportback has an incredibly passionate and loyal fan base, this new version has been one of our most requested models since the announcement of the new A3 family,” said Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America, in a release. Standing on the automaker’s booth, we can see why people are so excited over it. The Sportback TDI looks much sportier that the conservative A3 sedan with “coupe-like looks with the utility of a crossover.” While we already had good things to say about the Audi A3 sedan during our first drive, we can expect the A3 Sportback TDI to yield the same results, if not better considering it’ll be more fuel efficient.

The Sportback will likely follow the A3 sedan’s Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels. It will offer Audi’s MMI interface to control the optional navigation system, audio-entertainment and interior functions. Audi Drive Select, which oversees steering weight, throttle and transmission response and suspension tuning will also be available. Powertrain

The 2016 Audi A3 TDI Sportback, like the sedan version already announced, will use a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four diesel engine rated for 150 hp. Although Audi has not released fuel economy information, expect a big improvement over the outgoing 2013 A3 TDI hatch, which achieved up to 30/42 mpg (city/highway) with the dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive.
