2016 Alfa Romeo SUV Going to The Market Soon

Alfa Romeo announced that they are going to include two brand new SUVs in their lineup, the new 2016 Alfa Romeo SUV is going to be released to the market in 2016. Alfa Romeo plans to release eight new car models by 2018 in hoping to strengthen their brand in the automotive industry. The new SUV is going to compete directly with BMW X3, Audi Q5, Porsche Macan and Lexus NX.

The trio will provide plenty of competition, but Alfa – under the direction of the Fiat /Chrysler team – plans to offer a turbocharged V-6 that cranks out 500 horsepower. Also joining the engine lineup will be a milder six-cylinder, a four-cylinder, and a diesel. While it’s unlikely the diesel will wash ashore here in the States, it’s expected to generate some 350 horsepower.

Alfa Romeo’s second upcoming SUV is expected to be roughly the same size as the Volvo XC90. This will act as the automaker’s flagship SUV. Both the XC90- and X3-sized Alfa SUVs are said to ride on the same platform. The architecture allows for both rear- and all-wheel-drive setups, while enjoying a sporty, 50/50 weight distribution. There’s no word on whether that 50/50 balance goes for the rear drive or AWD model, but the added AWD weight would likely skew it in either direction.

This yet unnamed SUV will ride on the new rear- and four-wheel-drive platform that’s set to underpin the new compact Alfa Romeo Giulia sport sedan. Whereas the Giulia will aim to compete with the venerable BMW 3 Series, its SUV counterpart sets its sights on the BMW X1. This plan, along with the rumored Alfetta midsize sedan and larger crossover, is part of Alfa Romeo’s goal to increase global sales to 300,000 units per year by 2016. This model will be the brand’s first-ever SUV, coming more than 10 years after Alfa Romeo first showed its Kumal SUV concept at the 2003 Geneva auto show.

Past rumors have suggested that platform would be borrowed from the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but there’s no telling what Alfa’s got up its sleeve. We just hope Alfa doesn’t delay its SUV as it did the 4C. Like Fiat, Alfa has a huge potential market here in the U.S. with a dealer network already in place. However, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is quoted saying Alfa will never be built outside Italy as long as he’s in charge.

The 2016 Alfa Romeo SUV is going to make its debut in 2016 right after the debut of Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan. We still have no any definitive answer whether this SUV will be offered in the US market or not. Fiat-Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, said that the automaker will make its come back to the US market by launching Alfa Romeo 4C sports car, the 4C is expected to arrive to US market in the second quarter of this year. More Alfa Romeo models are going to invade US in 2015, so prepare yourself for this huge wave.
