2016 Acura NSX Spy Shots, Release Date and Price

Reports have confirmed that the 2016 Acura NSX is ready for production and is expected to go on sale in early 2016. The NSX concept has been around since its first reveal back in 2012, now the supercar is going for real. Big names are being targeted, such as Porsche 911, Audi R8 and Ferrari 458, it’s going to be exciting competition, right?

Acura engineers are extensively testing the car at the Nürburgring and on the German race track’s surrounding roads. The latest shots show that the new NSX has received additional cooling apertures on its hood, and the intakes at the front and sides of the car have also been enlarged. You may recall that an earlier prototype burned to the ground, possibly from overheating.

Among the info was a strong estimate of the NSX’s performance potential. “We have to achieve the type of acceleration that the customer is achieving with the Ferrari,” said Klaus to What Car?. “More importantly we have to achieve this every day and also at the Nürburgring.” Assuming Acura’s supercar is as actually quick as a 458 Italia, then it could hit 60 miles per hour in around 3.5 seconds.

The new Acura NSX is Honda’s first foray into the supercar market since it killed the original NSX in 2005. It will be powered by a hybrid system that uses a 3.5-liter V6 and a collection of batteries and electric motors to produce more than 450 horsepower. That power will be sent to all four wheels via a new SH-AWD system that was developed for the car.

Powering the three electric motors will be a lithium-ion battery, topped up with regenerative braking. A bilateral torque control system will be able to instantly generate negative or positive torque at the wheels during cornering to aid handling and provide what Acura describes as an “on-the-rails-cornering” experience.

Acura hasn’t revealed the car’s weight, power, or other specifications, but does state, “While most supercars opt for brute force delivered from a large engine, the NSX concept champions the true racing philosophy of an extremely favorable power-to-weight ratio.”

Development of the new NSX is taking place primarily in the U.S. and production of the car will also be handled here, at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center located in Marysville, Ohio to be exact. The car will be badged an Acura for the U.S. and Chinese markets, and a Honda everywhere else.

Release Date and Price

Sources said that the 2016 Acura NSX will be unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show in November, while the sale will commence in early 2016. As for the price, the new NSX is directly benchmarked against the Audi R8, resulting in a price of approximately $130,000 for U.S. market. Can’t wait to drive this supercar? So do we!
