2016 Acura MDX SUV Redesign, Price and Review

As one of the Acura’s best-selling vehicle, the MDX will soon receive updates in form of 2016 Acura MDX. The luxury SUV was first unveiled three years ago and haven’t received much changes from its first model. The company is trying to strengthen its market share by improving their existing lineup. Well, expect slightly revised exterior, new interior features and more engine options in this update.

When this new model was introduced (as 2014 year model), it was already clear that this model has a bright future. The new platform, that this model uses, turned out to be so good that new Honda Pilot will use it too (Honda Pilot will borrow some design and engineering solutions MDX too).

This platform solved the problem with space for the passengers, which earlier models had. Great thing about 2016 Acura MDX is that, according to company, two-thirds of vehicle is made of extra-light materials such as magnesium, aluminum and HSS (steel if the highest purity). This super lightweight means not only better aerodynamics, but also excellent fuel economy. Just like previous model, 2016 MDX will be available in only one trim level. This basically means that all of the latest facilities and high-tech features will available as standard, which is great.

Exterior and Interior

Significant body changes are expected with the future total redesign, which should be expected for the 2020 model year. The 2020 Acura MDX will probably have a new platform and radically changed exterior, interior and powertrain, but that’s still far in the distant future. The 2017 Acura MDX, which is coming by the middle of 2016, will have just enough of changes to make the automotive public interested in its style and performance. According to some unofficial reports, this CUV will be refreshed with new lines and more attractive front fascia and with an updated interior. Also, the latest infotainment system and perhaps improved safety will make this crossover very competitive. After all, the 2017 Acura MDX will have to prove that it still belongs to the high society, so we expect that it will come with even more luxury. Of course, it’s hard to say anything about it now, so we have to patiently wait for news about the 2017 refresh.

Engine wise, it will most likely feature two different engine options. A base 3.5 liter V6 with around 280 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. This has been carried over from the previous generation because it is a dependable engine that is really smooth and also powerful enough for such a car. The other options should be a hybrid powertrain with a 2.5 liter inline 4 and an electric motor. These two should be good for as much as 200 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque but for much better fuel economy than the V6.

The transmission for this model will range from a 6 speed automatic that will be available with either front wheel drive or all wheel drive on the V6 model to a CVT unit that will only be available with front wheel drive. The latter should be better for people who care about fuel consumption and comfort, being seamless at changing gears.

Release Date and Price

If everything goes smoothly, we expect that the 2016 Acura MDX SUV will be unveiled in mid 2015 as 2016 model year. Standard version will cost roughly $42,000 while range-topper with all-wheel drive system and additional features will add the price up to $56,000. Buyers are free to choose what kind of package they want, of course it comes with different prices for different packages.
